      <image:title>Bariatric - Laparoscopic "Roux-en-Y" Gastric Bypass</image:title>
      <image:caption>Gastric Bypass involves laparoscopically creating a very small stomach pouch (about 1 ounce), and making a connection between the stomach pouch and the intestine. Gastric Bypass enables weight loss by two mechanisms: The small stomach pouch causes restriction, which limits food intake. Restriction leads to early satiety (fullness) with much smaller meal portions. Gastric Bypass causes a small degree of malabsorption which reduces the number of calories extracted from the food that is consumed. The results of a gastric bypass are extremely consistent. Patients on average lose 70-80% of excess weight. Additionally, Gastric Bypass is highly effective at improving and often causing complete resolution of medical conditions such as diabetes and acid reflux.</image:caption>

      <image:title>Bariatric - Revision Bariatric Surgery</image:title>
      <image:caption>As leaders in the field of minimally invasive bariatric surgery, Dr. Doraiswamy and Dr. Moon take on some of the most challenging bariatric surgery cases. It is possible to start regaining some weight years after successful weight loss surgery. Weight regain after bariatric surgery can occur for a multitude of reasons. For some, mild weight regain may be corrected with diet modification and renewed emphasis on exercise. Other anatomic changes, such as stretching of the stomach pouch, may need a revisional bariatric procedure in order to correct it. Patients who underwent a sleeve gastrectomy and have still not lost their desired amount of weight may still need a duodenal switch. Some patients who have had suboptimal results with a lap band choose to switch to either a sleeve or gastric bypass. As experienced bariatric surgeons, Dr. Doraiswamy and Dr. Moon have the skills necessary to deal with these complex cases</image:caption>

      <image:title>Bariatric - Life-Changing Outcomes</image:title>
      <image:caption>Bariatric surgery induces weight loss by removing a portion of the stomach (sleeve gastrectomy or biliopancreatic diversion with duodenal switch) or by bypassing a portion of the intestines (gastric bypass surgery).</image:caption>
    </image:image>

      <image:loc>https://images.squarespace-cdn.com/content/v1/6223c3caf30c6d1a8f8f9890/392672c9-7618-45be-ae31-0b930dae440f/sleeve.jpeg</image:loc>
      <image:title>Bariatric - Laparoscopic Sleeve Gastrectomy</image:title>
      <image:caption>Sleeve Gastrectomy involves laparoscopically removing the left side of the stomach to decrease the volume from about 30-40 oz to 3-4 oz. The Sleeve Gastrectomy causes weight loss by two mechanisms: The small tubular stomach causes restriction, which limits food intake. Restriction leads to early satiety (fullness) with much smaller meal portions. There are hormones involved in hunger that are produced by the removed portion of the stomach. After a Sleeve Gastrectomy these hormone levels are drastically reduced which leads to a similar drop in hunger. The result is typically excellent weight loss -- on average 70-75% of excess weight. Additionally, Sleeve Gastrectomy has fewer long-term risks, and is generally an easier operation to live with than other weight loss surgeries.</image:caption>
